  DJ Huh This Is Me

Hello all this is DJ Huh. My friends call me Wayne. You can call me what you want just don’t call me when I’m sleeping, wink wink. This is my very first blog and I look forward to sharing details about myself with all of you. So let’s see, I guess it only makes sense to start from the beginning. Well, not the beginning, maybe more like in the middle.
I grew up in Sarasota, Florida in the mid 90’s. At my high school I noticed kids walking around with pants that had massive legs and logos like JNCO with pictures showing a baby riding an atom bomb or a kangaroo with boxing gloves coming out of a very low hanging back pocket, wearing Adidas visors and wearing necklaces and bracelets made of neon colored beads. At first I thought, “what is this all about”? Then I was introduced to Techno music, now known as EDM for some strange reason and still not as techno. I fell in love. The sounds, the rhythm and the feel of it took me away.

That’s when I met a girl… (haven’t we all) She introduced me into the “scene”. She taught me that it was all about the music and anything else was extra credit. She taught me that when you dance, you have to let music move you, not to try and move to the music, and to do that, you have to find yourself. I didn’t understand at first, but eventually after many music parties with amazing people I became very enlightened . These experiences took me to a different plane of living and life. I found myself. I was hooked on the scene and everything about it. That’s when I understood why all these kids, were wearing all of these strange clothes,  lived and came from.
Fast forward a few years… I’ve been in the scene for a while now, getting to know who the big DJs are, at least in my area. Learning that Tampa, Florida is the breaks capitol of the world. In this time of my life, mainstream radio has taken control of broadcasting the music I have come to love with a passion.
That’s when I got my first set of turntables for the sole purpose of defying the media and playing what I want to hear. My first piece of wax was Kaleidoscope’s Volume 8, which was green by the way and features tracks from Dj Fixx, “Stick em” and Huda Hudia “Drop the Bass Now”. After months of practice, since I didn’t have anyone to show me the points of beat matching, I finally got it down. I could mix!!!! That’s when I started my journey of finding all of the songs I loved on vinyl so I could put them together any way I wanted.
Moving forward a few more years, I find myself living right outside of Austin Texas. Now they say everything is bigger in Texas, but let me tell you, breakbeats are one of the smallest things around here that you can find. It’s all about House and just recently in the last 2 or 3 years dubstep. Don’t get me wrong, I love house just as much as the next person, but breaks run through my blood. I’m a breakbeat junkie through and through and living in a place where breaks are nothing more than runner up, its personally breaking my heart. That’s why I started to make mixes and post them on websites such as Soundcloud and Facebook. I want to get the spirit of breaks back out into the world.
After a while, a friend of mine, we will just call him Trippy Hippy notified me that he enjoys listening to my sets and loves the fact that I’m a vinyl purist. Come to find out, he is an administrative with a website and online family known as The Lost Art, or TLA for short. I was informed by this person that my talents would be loved and appreciated by many and he invited me to join this elite group to showcase my talents and love of music with others, which had been one of my goals from the very beginning. After being connected to the one of the godfathers of this group whose name is Demetrius, I got my very first gig filling in for someone. Then I got  a weekly slot on Thursday/Fridays from 2-4am .  From the very first day I had a crowd that was captivated by the music I played and by the fact that it was an all vinyl set. From then on I have played religiously every week, with few exceptions, until I picked up my current slot on Mondays from 4-6pm EST. Since then I seem to have gained a bigger following and have become a pretty well-known name when it comes to TLA for having a dope “Oldskool” breaks show which  includes electro breaks as well.
In conclusion, I am DJ HUH and I love Oldskool breaks. I am a vinyl purist. I believe that music should be shared with all and that being paid to do so is just a perk of the job. I believe that the scene can and will be restored to its former glory days. I believe that PLUR will once again be a cornerstone for many that have forgotten it or haven’t been introduced to it in the right way and I want to be a part of doing to for the masses. Join me DJ HUH every Monday from 2:00 – 4:00pm EST so we can do it together. I’ve been here for a whole minute and will still be here until the day I die. The Lost Art for life.
